Before Operation

Health Problems

Please inform us about your current health problems and medications you are using before the hair transplant operation. If you are experiencing any health problem, please consult your doctor who is following you about this problem before the operation and get his/her approval about the operation.

Medicines

After getting approval from your doctor, stop taking Aspirin and similar blood thinners 3 days before the operation.

2 days before the operation

Take care not to consume alcohol: You should avoid alcohol or narcotics at least one day before the operation, as they may interact with the drugs used during the operation (local anesthetics). Avoid smoking: Smoking reduces the blood flow to your scalp and can cause narrowing of the blood vessels and impede the growth of the transplanted hair. For this reason, try not to smoke from 1 day before the operation until 1 week after the operation.

What Should You Wear for the Operation?

Hair Growth Stages

1- Can I exercise after the operation?
We recommend that you avoid intense exercises for 2 weeks after the hair transplant operation. You can start doing light exercises such as walking after the fourth day after the operation. If you notice bleeding during your exercise, we recommend that you reduce the intensity of the exercise.
2- Should I avoid the sun after the operation?
One of the most important precautions to be taken after hair transplantation is to avoid sunlight and heat. We recommend protecting the scalp from the sun for 2 months after hair transplantation. Too much intense direct sun exposure can not only damage the surface of the scalp in the transplanted area, but can also affect the deep tissues, so serious damage can occur.
3- When can I go back to work after the operation?
You can return to work 5 days after the hair transplant operation. If you are working in heavy jobs, we recommend a longer time to return to work, between 7-14 days.
4- Can I swim after the operation?
You should avoid swimming for 1 month after hair transplantation.
5- Can I have sexual intercourse after the operation?
It may cause sweating during sexual intercourse. I recommend you to avoid sweating after the hair transplant operation. Especially when you sweat in the first few days, the transplanted hair follicles may dislocate.
6- Do I need to be careful when coughing / sneezing after the operation?
After the hair transplant operation, we recommend that you keep your head upright and avoid sudden movements such as severe coughing and sneezing. It is unlikely that you will damage the transplanted hair follicles by coughing a few days after your hair transplant. However, we still recommend you to be careful when sneezing or coughing.
7- Can I tilt my head after the operation?
Our patients who have undergone hair transplant operation should not tilt their head quickly for 3 days. This prevents the grafts from coming out of the recipient area or bleeding. This is also an important factor for a successful hair transplant result.
8- Can I smoke after the operation?
It is in your best interest to stop smoking one week before and one week after surgery, as smoking prolongs the recovery period. Nicotine hardens and narrows the blood vessels. This both delays healing and negatively affects new hair growth.
9- Can I touch the transplanted hair after the operation?
One of the most important items is to avoid touching the grafts for the first ten days after the procedure.
10- Can I enter Sauna/Solarium after the operation?
We do not recommend going to saunas and steam baths or staying in very hot places after a hair transplant. These activities can increase sweating and can be almost as harmful as exercising. For 2 months after a hair transplant, you should avoid going to saunas or hammams as they cause intense sweating.
11- Can I scratch the transplantation area after the operation?
It is important to avoid scratching your hair for a month as it can peel off the scabs and delay the healing process. Instead of scratching your scalp with your fingernail, you can rub the area very gently.
12- Can I use a hat/helmet after the operation?
You should avoid wearing a helmet or hat for one month after the procedure. Wearing a helmet or hat after a hair transplant operation can damage your newly transplanted hair strands and you may eventually lose your hair. Helmets can also cause sweating, which causes the hair graft to fall off the scalp.
13- Should I avoid sweating after the operation?
After hair transplantation, patients should avoid excessive sweating to prevent damage to the transplanted grafts for a month. If the patient lives in a hot climate, it is recommended to stay indoors as much as possible for the first 2-3 weeks following the procedure.
14- Can I consume alcohol after the operation?
Patients should avoid drinking alcoholic beverages for at least two weeks before and after the hair transplant operation. This period will be enough to remove the alcohol in your body and normalize your blood pressure.
1- Sleeping on your stomach
Patients should sleep face down for the first three nights after the operation, keeping their head at least 45 degrees elevated and using a neck pillow. For the first few days, you should avoid anything that may prevent the new grafts from firmly attaching to your scalp.
2- Use of a neck pillow
Sleeping properly helps patients recover properly and ensures that the hair grafts remain intact. Patients should sleep face down for the first three nights with their head at least 45 degrees higher, using a neck pillow.
3- Avoiding sudden movements
You should avoid turning your head quickly or hitting your head against the headboard.
4- Changing sheets and pillowcases
It is very important to have clean sheets and pillowcases for a comfortable sleep and to prevent infection after the hair transplant operation. You should make sure that you use allergen-free detergent on your sheets so that you do not irritate the scalp as it heals.
1- Scalp numbness
There may be a feeling of numbness shortly after transplantation. This sensation returns to normal within three weeks, but can sometimes last 2 to 6 weeks. It may take some time to recover and regain full sensation after your operation. After a while, the lack of sensation decreases and disappears as the sensory nerves regenerate.
2- Burning sensation
In the first 2-4 days after hair transplantation, there may be a tolerable burning sensation in the recipient and donor areas.
3- Bruising
Facial swelling after hair transplantation usually occurs between the 2nd and 7th day after surgery. Post-inflammatory swelling is usually a secondary reaction to the healing of your scalp. To minimize swelling on the forehead or around the eyes, you can apply an ice pack over the eyebrows for 15 minutes every hour, not on the grafts. Swelling is part of the healing process and usually disappears within 5-7 days.
4- Haircut with scissors
Haircuts with scissors are allowed after one month, but you should not use a razor for at least four months.
5- Moisturizing the scalp
Four days after the operation, a burning sensation may occur, especially in the donor area. In this case, it is recommended to apply moisturizing lotion to the donor area three or four times a day and wait for it to be absorbed.
6- Itching and redness
Itching is a sign of healing and it is completely normal to feel it a few days after surgery. Do not scratch or scrape the transplanted area with your fingernails. Itching may continue for a week.
7- Hair dye
When can hair be dyed after hair transplantation? is a common question among patients. While it is possible to dye the hair after hair transplantation, it is important to wait a few weeks as the newly transplanted hair follicles are sensitive. Harsh dyes can interfere with their growth during healing. Patients are advised to wait at least four to six months or until the scalp is completely healed before dyeing their hair.
8- Shaving machine
Razors can be used after the first 4 months. Head number 0 should be used because the scalp is still sensitive. Haircuts with scissors are allowed after one month, but you should not use a razor for at least four months.
9- Hairdresser/Haircut
The first month after a hair transplant requires you to take a little more care of your scalp and hair than usual. You should wait at least one month before going to the hairdresser. Waiting for the scalp to heal completely will ensure maximum hair growth results.
10- Ice Compress
It is recommended to place a cold compress or ice on the donor or recipient areas after hair transplantation. Keep the ice pack at least one inch away from the front hairline where the grafts were placed. Start using an ice pack immediately after surgery and continue for the next 5 days. Putting ice around the forehead or hair transplant area will make you feel better and may reduce swelling. Be careful not to get too close to the hair transplant area when applying the ice compress.
11- Not hitting the head
Hitting the head for the first two months can cause graft loss. So be careful not to hit your head anywhere after your hair transplant.
1- Increase in hair density
Transplantation is the phase where the results turn into a natural hair.
2- Growth of new hair
In the first few months following the surgery, the patient will see new hair growth. This new growth cycle tends to vary from patient to patient, but will be visible approximately three months after the procedure.
3- Shock spill
Hair loss after hair transplantation, known as shock hair loss, is quite common. The loss of newly transplanted hair is considered a normal after-effect of the hair transplant operation. Shock hair loss is completely natural and triggers the regrowth of the transplanted follicles.
4- More dense hair appearance
4- More frequent hair appearance Between 6 to 10 months the patient will be able to notice impressive results.
5- Hair transplant results
The final results of the hair transplant operation are seen within 12-18 months.
6- Stable hair growth
The patient will usually observe new hair growth up to five to six months after the procedure. Moreover, this is also the stage when the patient will start to notice that the newly transplanted hair has become quite thick. Patients will notice an intense increase in their hair at this stage.

Hair Washing and Desquamation

Hair should be washed 3 days after the operation and should be washed with warm water once a day for 15 days without interruption. Thus, at the end of the 12th day, the scabs will usually fall off.

Week One and Week Two

Step 1 – Lotion Application

The emollient lotion enhances the regeneration of skin cells, moisturizes the skin and softens peels.

Donor Area and Recipient Area: Lotion will be applied to both the transplanted and donor areas. Coat 7-8 drops of lotion on both areas with a light touch. Wait 1 hour and rinse during hair washing. Apply the lotion in the same direction as the transplanted grafts to avoid any damage. Note that you can use more lotion for the donor area.

Step 2 – Shampoo Application

Special medical shampoo is used to remove the crusts and help the healing process. After 45 minutes after applying the lotion, you can start washing as described.

Using the provided medical shampoo, create a lather between your hands and gently lather the donor and recipient area without rubbing or vigorous movements. Wait 2-3 minutes before rinsing.

Step 3 – Rinse

Wash your head gently with hot water (use first water). Pour some water on your head using a bowl (do not use a shower). It is important to rinse the shampoo thoroughly.

Step 4 – Drying

Do not use a towel to dry your hair. You should use a hair dryer in cold air mode and at a reasonable distance from your head.

If you still have some scabs, please apply 12-15 drops of lotion on the transplanted area and leave it for 2 hours. Then, wash it with the shampoo we provide and do a gentle massage to get rid of the scabs. Do this every day until the scabs disappear. Once the scabs are gone, you can stop using the lotion, but for the rest you need to wash your hair every day.

1 month after the operation, you will have passed the risky stage; you can go back to your normal life and use a towel. A reminder: Please send us photos of your head from different angles after following the washing instructions for the first week.

Post Operation Follow-up

Postoperative follow-up allowed the results to be much more permanent.

What will you experience periodically from the first day of hair transplantation? When will the hair grow after transplantation? When does itching stop after hair transplantation?

Hair Transplant Post-Operative Follow-up, First One Year

Three days after the hair transplant:

Immediately after the hair transplantation, the appearance of the grafts as slightly bloody red dots, swelling in the donor area, mild swelling in various parts of your face can be listed as the most common conditions you will encounter in this process. It is possible to say that all these are temporary complications that will heal naturally.

Ten days after the hair transplant:

Within the first ten days after hair transplantation, the scabs formed by your scalp to start the healing process gradually fall off. With the disappearance of the red dot appearance, you will get an image as if you have shaved your hair. After this stage, your hair and scalp are in the healing process.

The first month after a hair transplant:

After the fifteenth day after hair transplantation, a period called “shock loss” may begin. This period intensifies towards the end of the first month and sometimes continues into the second month. In shock loss, you may lose almost all of your hair. However, you do not need to worry about this situation, the hair will grow back one by one with the healing process.

Third Month After Hair Transplant:

By the third month, shock shedding should be complete. Until the first three months, the scalp is still healing. This is why various tissue reactions (e.g. pimpling, itching, etc.) may occur. These are all important signs that healing is taking place. You should not use any products other than those recommended by your doctor during this period, and you should be very careful not to scratch your scalp.

Sixth Month After Hair Transplant:

The hair growth process, which usually accelerates from the fourth month onwards, reaches 50 to 60 percent of all hair by the end of the sixth month. The sixth month refers to a period in which complaints such as injury and irritation are almost completely eliminated and the hair focuses solely on growth.

Eighth Month After Hair Transplant:

By the end of the eighth month, most patients have 80 percent to 90 percent of their hair.

First Year After Hair Transplant:

In some patients, the growth process is completely finished by the end of the first year, in others approximately six months later. This process is usually related to the structure of the patient’s scalp and the healing performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the answers to all the questions you wonder about hair transplantation.

1- Who are suitable candidates for hair transplantation?
Suitable candidates for hair transplantation are generally people with the following characteristics: Those with hereditary hair loss, those with sufficient donor area hair density, those whose hair loss has stopped at a certain stage, those with good general health and those with realistic expectations. In addition, a detailed consultation is carried out prior to hair transplantation to assess the suitability of the person.
2- What is the appropriate age range for hair transplantation?
The ideal age range for hair transplantation is generally between 25-65 years. Before the age of 25, the hair loss pattern may not be fully established and early procedures may require additional procedures in the future. The upper age limit depends on the general health status of the person. The important thing is that the hair loss process has stabilized.
3- What is the appropriate gender for hair transplantation?
Hair transplantation is suitable for both men and women. However, the pattern and cause of hair loss may differ according to gender. Men usually have androgenetic alopecia (male pattern hair loss), while diffuse hair loss is more common in women. Appropriate techniques and approaches are available for both genders.
4- For which hair types can hair transplantation be performed?
Hair transplantation can be applied for all types of hair: straight, wavy, curly, thin or thick hair. What matters is the quality and density of the hair in the donor area. Special planning is made for each hair type and the appropriate technique is selected. A natural look is achieved by adjusting the transplantation angles and density according to the hair type.
5- How many sessions are required for hair transplantation?
Usually a single session is sufficient, but in some cases a second session may be required depending on the width of the shedding area and the desired intensity. A second session evaluation can be performed 12-18 months after the first session. Each case is evaluated individually and personalized planning is made.
6- How long does hair transplantation take?
The hair transplant procedure takes 6-8 hours on average. This time may vary depending on the number of grafts to be transplanted, the technique used and the experience of the team. In procedures performed with the FUE technique, graft collection takes approximately 2-3 hours, channel opening takes 1 hour and graft placement takes 2-3 hours. The whole procedure is completed in one day.
7- Is hair transplantation painful?
Hair transplantation is painless as it is performed under local anesthesia. There may be a slight stinging sensation only during anesthesia, which lasts for a very short time. There may be a slight tenderness for 2-3 days after the procedure, this is normal and can be controlled with painkillers.
8- Are there any scars after hair transplantation?
In hair transplantation with the modern FUE technique, visible scars are minimal. There may be punctate scars smaller than 1 mm in the donor area, but these become invisible when the hair grows. In the recipient area, there is no scarring after a professional procedure.
9- How long is the recovery period after hair transplantation?
Although the healing process varies from person to person, it is generally as follows: Tenderness and edema in the first 3-4 days, loss of scabs in 7-10 days, healing of the donor area in 15-20 days. Full recovery is completed within 1 month. The final appearance of the transplanted hair appears after 12-15 months.
10- How should I wash my hair after hair transplantation?
Gentle washing with special shampoo starts 2 days after the procedure. For the first 15 days, it is washed without direct water, without foaming and rubbing, by gently flowing. Warm water should be used and the hair should be dried without pressing with a towel. After 15 days, normal washing can be started.
11- How should my hair be styled after hair transplantation?
Avoid styling the hair for the first 1 month. After 1 month, gentle styling can be done. Hard brushes, combs and hair dryers are not recommended for the first 1 month. After 3 months, normal styling can be done, but excessive hot applications should be avoided.
12- Can I exercise after hair transplantation?
Heavy exercise should be avoided for the first 2 weeks. Light walking can be done from the 4th day. After 2 weeks, light exercises can be started. After 1 month, you can return to all sports activities. Activities that cause sweating should be especially avoided for the first 2 weeks.
13- Which anesthesia methods are used for hair transplantation?
Local anesthesia is used in hair transplantation. Anesthesia is applied first in the donor area and then in the recipient area. In some cases, sedation can also be added. The effect of anesthesia lasts 4-6 hours and the procedure is completely painless. General anesthesia is not required.
14- Is there a risk of infection after hair transplantation?
The risk of infection is very low in procedures performed under sterile conditions. However, it is important to follow hygiene rules and doctor’s instructions. Post-procedure antibiotic use and special care instructions minimize the risk of infection.
15- Will my hair fall out after hair transplantation?
2-3 weeks after the procedure, the transplanted hair starts to fall out, this is a normal process and is called shock hair loss. After 3-4 months, new hair begins to grow. Permanent hair becomes prominent from the 6th month and reaches its final appearance in 12-15 months.
16- How long will my new hair grow after hair transplantation?
The growth process of transplanted hair is as follows: 3-4th month the first growth starts, 6th month there is significant growth, 8-9th month the density increases, 12-15th month the final appearance is formed. This process may vary from person to person.
17- Will my existing hair be damaged after hair transplantation?
In a professional procedure, existing hair is not damaged. The grooving process is carefully done between the existing hair. However, there may be a temporary shock loss after the procedure, this is a normal process and the hair grows again.
18- How dense will my hair be after hair transplantation?
The density depends on the number of grafts that can be transplanted and the hair structure of the person. On average, 40-45 grafts are transplanted per cm². For a natural look, a denser density is planned in the front area and a gradual decrease in the back areas. The final appearance appears in 12-15 months.
19- How long will my new hair last after hair transplantation?
The transplanted hair is permanent for life because it is taken from the area that is genetically resistant to hair loss. However, existing hair may continue to fall out. Therefore, in some cases, additional sessions may be required years later.
20- Can the color of my hair change after hair transplantation?
Transplanted hair retains its natural color. There is no color change because the hair is the person’s own hair. However, external factors such as sun, shampoo can cause temporary tone changes, this is also seen in normal hair.
21- Will I have dandruff after hair transplantation?
Dryness and flaking in the first weeks after the procedure is a normal healing process. Permanent dandruff is not expected. This process is easily overcome by using special shampoo and following the doctor’s recommendations.
22- Will my hair itch after hair transplantation?
Mild itching is normal during the healing process and usually lasts 1-2 weeks. Scratching should be avoided during this period. Moisturizers and care products recommended by the doctor help to reduce itching.
23- Can I dye my hair after hair transplantation?
It is recommended to wait at least 1 month for hair coloring. The ideal is to wait 3 months. A doctor should be consulted before dyeing. For the first dyeing, low ammonia products suitable for sensitive scalp should be preferred.
24- What will be the direction of my hair after hair transplantation?
The direction of the hair is planned in accordance with the natural hair growth angles. Transplantation is performed at an angle of 40-45 degrees in the front line and 60-70 degrees in the crown area. In this way, a completely natural appearance is achieved.
25- How can I adjust the length of my hair after hair transplantation?
Haircuts should not be done for the first 15 days. After 1 month, cutting with scissors is allowed. Wait 3 months for electric shaver use and 6 months for razor use. Hair can be cut to the desired length.
26- Can I be exposed to the sun after hair transplantation?
The first 15 days should be protected from direct sunlight. For 1 month, it is recommended to use a hat. For 3 months, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. Sunscreen products can be used, but no cream should be applied to the planting area during the first 15 days.
27- What can I do to increase the density of my hair after hair transplantation?
To increase hair density: A balanced diet, vitamin supplements (as recommended by a doctor), use of hair care products, stress management and regular sleep are important. Supportive applications such as PRP treatment can also be considered.
